From East to West, Hair Plays Major Role in Fashion Shows!

Tinsel town got another fashion fix this fall by hosting fashion week for the second time. As official hair sponsor of the event, and of Olympus Fashion Week in New York, Redken was at the center of the action coiffing models for 27 of the Spring 2004 shows on both coasts.

How did L.A. compare to NY? Well, some may say the NY crowd was all business, jam-packed with buyers and press, and the L.A. crowd far more laidback, sipping champagne at 7:00am (ah, the Ashley Paige show was great!). However, there was one similarity -- the hair. Both coasts showcased full, textured hairstyles with lots of curl, on and off the runway. Yes, Spring 2004 is the season of the girlie girl!

"I think the Ashley Paige show was a great representation of Spring 2004 hair," explains Carla Gentile, owner of Steam Salon in West Hollywood and key hair stylist for the show. "The hair was very full with exaggerated texture. It was meant to mimic a forest fairy's hair after a good frolic in the woods. I thought the twigs and little green leaves were a nice touch. For the average woman, it would translate to adding a bit more texture and possibly getting creative with a new hair accessory." Tip: For exaggerated volume, try Full Frame 07 protective volumizing mousse.

To the other extreme, the Rebecca Rich show was fashioned after a famous Italian murderess who once said, "I'd rather weep in a Rolls Royce than be happy on a bicycle" -- a woman who visited the salon once a week and didn't touch her hair between appointments. Sean James for Redken, key hair stylist for the show, used a double-barreled curling iron to create tons of curls around the entire head. He then vigorously shook the hair to breakup the curl pattern for a "done" but not "set" look. Dramatic, monochromatic silk flowers were then placed across the back hairline for added decadence. Tip: Spray hair with Spray Starch 15 heat memory styler to lock in curl pattern from irons.
